Fired with versatility, the super-sized, 24-inch gas-powered pizza oven has an innovative dual-zone cooking function.

This allows for multiple pizza styles, or foods such as meats and vegetables, to be cooked simultaneously at a range of temperatures.

In addition, and in an Ooni first, the pizza oven’s new digital temperature hub connects to smartphones, so you can track the oven’s temperatures on your phone and monitor the cooking of your dough-y creations.

For $1,499, you can expect a supersized 24-inch cooking area which would allow you to cook two 12-inch pizzas, three 10-inch pizzas or multiple veggie and meat dishes at the same time.

The clever oven has two separate gas burners for dual-zone cooking, and a 20mm cordierite cooking surface, Ooni’s thickest yet.

“This oven is what pizza party dreams are made of,” said Darina Garland, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Ooni.

“But between the large cooking space and the versatile dual burners, pizza is only the beginning.

The Koda 2 Max can precisely cook an entire meal of main and side dishes to absolute perfection.”

“It provides the fuel for creating trailblazing ovens and most importantly, optimising at-home cooking experiences for people around the world.

“The Koda 2 Max has several advancements, including zonal cooking and smartphone connectivity, which offers users extreme flexibility and control.

“Our goal is to create products to elevate the joy of being together, and the Koda 2 Max enables our community to do this perfectly.”

Three of the best other Ooni pizza ovens put to the test

1. Ooni Volt 12 Electric Pizza Oven — reviewed by Best Picks editor Sophie Haslett

The Ooni Volt 12 — which Oprah Winfrey listed as one of her “Favourite Things” in her iconic gift list for 2023 — is billed as the only pizza oven in the world that can make restaurant-quality meals both indoors and outdoors.

The Ooni Volt 12 is described as an electric, versatile pizza oven ($1,499) suitable for both indoor or outdoor use.

It is the only Ooni oven to use electricity instead of gas or charcoal to heat and cook your pizzas.

Not only is the device stylish and portable, but it produces absolute restaurant-quality pizzas from the comfort of my home.

I also love the fact the device can be used inside and outside.

2. Ooni Karu 12G Pizza Oven — reviewed by Melbourne editor Lucy Mae-Beers

The compact and powerful, Ooni Karu 12G multi-fuel pizza oven ($699), is being described as the “world’s most advanced” portable pizza oven.

It is one of three Ooni ovens that has the versatility of using wood, charcoal or gas to cook and takes 15 minutes to heat up, reaching a maximum of 500C.

After experiencing an Ooni for the first time, there is no going back for our household.

Not only does it consistently turn out restaurant-quality pizzas, its versaility with the wood, charcoal or gas means it suits any occasion and any destination.

For example, if you’re hosting a party and need to churn out high-quality pizzas, but aren’t keen for the wood-fire smoke and don’t have time to tend to the kindling, the gas burner is a convenient and seamless option.

Or if you’re off on a road trip, pack up the Karu, some wood or charcoal and then there is no need to lug a gas bottle with you.

3. Ooni Koda 12 Pizza oven — reviewed by Lifestyle editor Cindy Tran

Compact yet super powerful, the Koda 12 is an outdoor oven weighing just 9.25kg.

But it’s large enough to cook a 12-inch pizza in as little as one minute.

As the smallest of all the Ooni pizza ovens, the gas-powered model can replicate a true wood-fired flame, reaching scorching temperatures of up to 500°C within 15 minutes.

Ready to use right out of the box, the sleek design fits perfectly in any outdoor space — so you can get a taste of Italy from your own backyard or a tiny apartment balcony without the need for a massive brick oven.

Using an Ooni pizza oven has definitely upped our pizza game, while greatly cutting the time required to bake in the kitchen.

I am consistently turning out the best pizzas I have ever made at home.
