Beware of Fraudulent Emails: Potential Scam Targeting Disney+ Subscribers

Disney+ customers are urged to keep an eye out for suspicious emails threatening to cancel subscriptions, as cyber criminals prey on the streaming service’s audience.

The phishing email uses the official Disney+ logo to dupe unsuspecting customers into falling for the scam and handing over the financial details.

The message opens with, “we are really sorry”, before claiming the service has been unable to authorise the customer’s most recent payment and will be “suspending your subscription”.

“Of course we would love to see you again. Just click, ‘restart subscription to update your information and continue enjoying the best TV shows and movies without interruption’,” it says.

The email then prompts the recipient to click on a link to “renew your invoice”, which takes them to a fake Disney+ for the cybercrook to take their financial information.

Disney+ is aware of suspicious emails and offers advice on red flags to be aware of.

“Disney+ will never ask you for personal information unless you willingly contact Disney+ and it is needed to resolve a problem,” it says.

The service urges customers to never click on links or open attachments sent by cyber criminals posing as Disney+.

“Delete the email or text. If you’re unsure whether it is legitimate or not, contact us directly,” it says.

Anyone who has clicked on a suspicious link is encouraged to update their Disney+ password before logging out of all devices.

Also, update any additional sites or apps using the same password and email.

“If you’ve entered any financial information, it is best to contact your financial institution(s) in order to prevent fraud attempts,” Disney+ says.

“If you think someone may have already accessed your Disney+ account, you can contact us directly.”
