Bharat Petroleum, Tata Motors subsidiary ink pact to deploy over 7,000 EV chargers: Details

Bharat Petroleum and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) have, the electric vehicle arm of Tata Motors, have inked a pact to set up over 7,000 EV chargers across the country by next year.
As a part of this collaboration, the carmaker will leverage BPCL’s fuel station network and will use insights from over 1.15 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads,to set up chargers at locations frequented by Tata EV owners. BPCL will also gather usage insights to enhance the overall customer experience. Furthermore, the companies are exploring the introduction of a co-branded RFID card for a convenient payment system, simplifying transactions for Tata EV users.

BPCL currently boasts a nationwide network of over 21,000 fuel stations. The company plans to install 7,000 EV charging stations by the next year and has initiated more than 90 Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Highway Corridors spanning over 30,000 kilometers along major highways to address range concerns.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility currently boasts a market share of over 71 percent in electric passenger vehicles. At present, the carmaker sells the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and the flagship Nexon EV in India. The Nexon EV, which has been leading the sales chart in the country, recently got a facelift. The model is currently available at a starting introductory price of Rs 14.72 lakh.
Tata Motors recently announced that its entire model range will be getting a price hike come January 2024. Due to rising input costs and overall inflation, almost all the leading carmakers have announced price hikes from 2024.
