Body discovered in lake at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney’s eastern suburbs

A body has been discovered in a lake at an exclusive golf club in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to The Lakes, on Wentworth Avenue, Eastlakes, about 9.30am after a groundsman found the body.

The body is believed to have been male, however, their age is not yet known.

7NEWS chopper footage shows police divers working to retrieve the body from the lake.

Police say they were called to the club following reports of a concern for welfare.

“Officers are being assisted by PolAir and the Marine Area Command,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The course is now closed while investigations are carried out.

The 95-year-old club describes itself as one of the leading major tournament venues in Australian golf.

It has hosted the Australian Open on seven occasions, including four times since 2010.

Prospective members aged over 40 are charged a $40,000 entrance fee and $5700 annually for a full membership.
