Brian Lara Says Umran Malik Has Many Years Ahead of Him

Legendary West Indies cricketer Brian Lara believes that young Indian fast bowler Umran Malik has a bright future ahead of him in the game. Despite his young age, Lara emphasizes that Malik should not solely rely on his speed but should also develop other skills. Although Malik has played eight T20Is since his debut in June 2022, where he has taken 11 wickets with an economy rate of 10.48, he has not been selected for the ongoing series against the West Indies. In the previous ODI series, Malik played two matches but failed to take a wicket. During the IPL 2023, where Lara served as head coach for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Malik played seven matches and took five wickets at an economy rate of 10.35. Lara praises Malik’s potential but emphasizes the importance of being able to do more than just bowl fast. He suggests that Malik can learn from the careers of other great fast bowlers, such as working with Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach Dale Steyn. Lara believes that with the right guidance and training, Malik can become one of the best fast bowlers produced by India.
