Bride stuns after labelling her friend’s gold dress choice for the wedding ‘trashy’ at the reception

A woman has taken to the internet in shock after she was labelled “trashy” by her bride friend for choosing to wear a gold dress to her wedding.

The wedding guest explained that she had been long-time best friends with the groom, Dan, and despite only ever having a platonic relationship with him, the groom’s now wife, Lauren, had always disliked her.

“In the three years of them dating, I was never allowed to see my best friend alone because she always thought it was suspicious that I wanted to hang out with him,” the woman wrote in a Reddit thread.

“Despite me being happily married, she always kept me at an arm’s length.”

The woman explained that while her friend had spoken to his partner multiple times, she would always “revert to complaining about him being friends with a girl”.

The woman added: “It’s not ideal but I have made peace with it because she makes my friend happy”.

The woman said that when it came to the wedding, she was originally going to be in the groom’s party, but the bride ended up throwing a fit and said “a wedding is not a place to swap gender roles”.

She explained that her friend fought his partner on this, but the woman told him she’d just attend as a guest to keep the peace.

The dress code for the wedding was ‘warm toned garden party,’ and guests were encouraged to wear “earthy warm colours”.

But the Lauren the bride took issue with the woman’s choice of dress at the reception, and said: “I cannot believe you would wear gold to my wedding, you’re not the first prize, you’re just f*****g trashy”.

“I was so shocked in the moment, I just stared at her,” explained the woman.

“She practically screamed at me to leave, and she was drawing attention, so I grabbed my husband, said goodbye to my friend and left.”

The woman said the groom reached out to her and told her he was upset she left the wedding so soon.

She also said that the bride’s mother texted her saying“she had ruined the wedding for her daughter” and she was “stupid for wearing gold” and that it “was as bad as wearing white”.

“I was genuinely not aware this was a thing, I want to reach out to my friend to explain but I don’t know if I am in the wrong here, am I the a******?” the woman asked.

Her post received more than 1,000 comments and people were quick to side with her and call out the bride.

“No gold dresses at weddings isn’t a thing, it’s 100 per cent the bride and her obvious history of hating this woman for being friends with her man,” said one.

“Definitely wear the same dress to the divorce party,” said another.

“I think the wife is just an insecure jealous and immature person.

“I feel sorry for your friend. However, if I knew that my friend’s bride was jealous and suspicious of me, I would not have worn that dress. It’s lovely, and most occasions would have been fine.”

Another commenter added: “Even this one, it should be totally fine.

“But low cut with a lace up back is maybe not the right choice if you are trying to get in the good graces of a jealous bride (although if you don’t care about the jealous bride, then wear whatever dress you want).”
