Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s getting away from a hard day’s work.

Jenna Brandt, Purdy’s fiancée, posted a seven-second clip on her Instagram Story of the 23-year-old working her family’s farm in Iowa. After scanning a field of corn, the camera pans to Purdy, who is operating a combine harvester while wearing a white 49ers hat. The post is captioned “Wrapping up harvest ‘23” with a heart emoji at the end.

Purdy is originally from Arizona but is more than acclimated with Iowa’s corn culture because of his four years at Iowa State in Ames. That farm in particular appears to have some emotional significance to the couple beyond the direct family connection: As People noted, Brandt made their relationship “Instagram official” with a couple pictures of Purdy visiting the farm back in 2022.

An isolated farm in the Midwest among family may just be the perfect place for Purdy right now, given the hellish stream of criticism that has circled him over the past few weeks. Since starting 5-0, the Niners have been on a three-game losing streak that has featured some rough mistakes on the quarterback’s end, including five total interceptions. While Purdy’s teammates have had his back publicly, that hasn’t stopped pundits from questioning his acumen as an NFL starter.

It also doesn’t help that the young player is so harsh on himself, as Niners coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR-AM on Tuesday.

“You should hear him talk to our team after the game,” Shanahan said. “I mean, he’s sick over those turnovers. I understand how they happen and we don’t want them to happen, but I can’t tell you how much I believe in him.”

Some R&R — even if it is by way of farm work — feels like the right prescription to help him deal with that sickness, and perhaps avoid it in the future. What will also help is the fact that he’ll be getting one of his biggest offensive threats back after the bye week, as Deebo Samuel said Thursday he’s “ready to go.”
