Cairns car dealership reimagining the role of the used car salesman goes viral online

A Queensland car dealership has gone viral on social media for its creative sales techniques.

Pacific Toyota Cairns gained a mass of followers thanks to its unique brand of videos circulating online, which have been viewed more than three million times in the past year.

A mix of humour sprinkled with car facts has not only entertained followers but resulted in tangible sales.

“We have had an instance (in which) a video was posted and a viewer purchased that car within 12 hours,” marketing executive Mark Law told 7NEWS.com.au.

Law says the idea to create pre-owned car content that was engaging began about a year ago.

“We know pre-owned cars aren’t always the most exciting thing on the internet,” he said.

“What we found is, if we make the video fun, while still showing the viewer what the car is all about, we reach more people.”

Video content on the dealership’s page ranges from a dancing Mr Bean meme on a family SUV, or poking fun at social influencers driving around Australia, to sympathising with the plight of parents driving with multiple kids screaming in the backseat.

“We have had a huge reaction to (the) videos, getting almost three million views in 12 months, with a recent video getting more than 650,000 views in two weeks,” Law said.

“We seem to have a very positive reaction with people loving the tongue-in-cheek style we use.”

While fans seem to love the Inspired-Unemployed-meets-Cairns car dealership-style of humour, some people commented the content “must have been a hard sell to the marketing department”.

Others said it was one of the “best ads they’d ever seen” with one person saying they would “fly to Cairns to buy a car from here”.

“I’m really lucky I have a team who back my ideas, and who are more than happy to jump in front of the camera to bring them to life,” Law said.
