During his appearance as a special guest on ‘You Quiz on the Block’ on May 8, ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo candidly discussed various aspects of his life and career, including the emotional experience of losing his dear friend Moonbin.
Cha Eun Woo revealed that despite his reputation for being handsome and diligent in school, he was never approached or scouted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, as quoted by allkpop, “I had never been scouted to become a celebrity before, but one Sunday, I attended a physics cram school and was offered an audition.I thought it was a scam and considered not going. However, my teacher told me, ‘This is an opportunity given to you, so you should take it.’ The teacher adjusted my schedule, so I went to the audition with my mom. That’s how I ended up becoming a trainee.”
He further added, “I never danced before. So I got into a lot of trouble. There was no area I was good at. I was praised a lot at school, but then I was only scolded as a trainee so I lost a lot of confidence. After three and a half years of training, I learned to become patient and how to endure.”
Cha Eun Woo conveyed his fondness for the ASTRO members and expressed his sentiments, “All our members are kind and we are deeply connected so we were able to overcome a lot of things.” Adding on it, “I felt guilty when all the attention was focused on me. I only slept three hours a week, but I endured it because I felt responsible for promoting the team and letting everyone know how talented all the members are.”
He proceeded to discuss the loss of Moonbin, who tragically passed away in 2023, “Last year was a particularly hard year for me. I wrote the lyrics to the songs in my album this year and there were so many things I wanted to say. People forget so easily so I was sad. I thought about what would be a meaningful and memorable way to express it. I cried a lot while writing the lyrics. I still can’t sing that song… I felt too guilty. He appears in my dreams often. When someone asks, ‘Are you okay?’ I don’t want to say whether I’m okay or not. So, the direction and method of life I chose are to do better and to live better. That’s why I’m working hard. I think he (Moonbin) would want that and hope for that.”
Cha Eun Woo went on to say, “I feel like I should cherish and live even harder, thinking that I should carry it with me for a lifetime. I thought I should get myself together even more so that my surroundings wouldn’t collapse. Even though the company said I could take a break, that’s why I ended up doing ‘Wonderful World’.” In conclusion, Cha Eun Woo conveyed a heartfelt message for Moonbin, expressing, “Binnie, are you doing well? I miss you. Don’t worry about me. I’m fulfilling your share. Let’s meet again.”
