Close Call: Children Miraculously Escape Harm in Heart-Pounding Crash at Palanga 1006km Motor Race

Multiple fans, including two children, have narrowly avoided being crushed in a terrifying crash at the Palanga 1006km motor race in Lithuania.

The annual endurance event, which takes place on a closed highway and nearby roads, had just passed its halfway mark when the No.91 Porsche exited the pits.

But it proved to be a calamity as the driver lost control under acceleration and spun into a ditch.

The Porsche caught a side road and rolled over – directly into the path of a camera tower, a tree and dozens of fans.

A child and an adult could be seen rushing to safety as the temporary structure fell and the car tipped onto its roof.

Suddenly a second child emerged from underneath the tree, as little as a metre from where the Porsche came to a stop.

A nearby adult leaned in to rescue the child.

A cameraman standing atop the tower clung on as it collapsed.

All involved reportedly avoided injury but an ambulance was on hand to assess the children.

Local reports say the Porsche had just switched from wet tyres to a slick compound after earlier rain cleared and the track dried out.

The race continued after officials cleaned up the crash site.

Largely filled with local drivers, the Palanga 1006km was won by a Mercedes team featuring ex-Formula One driver Jan Magnussen and his Le Mans teammate Anders Fjordbach.

Fjordbach set a new lap record during the race.

“I feel great! It was a long day, a hard day,” Magnussen said.

A lot has happened since the start of the race, but now I’m super happy that we got through it all without any major problems.

“We only got a few scratches. It was a fantastic day, intense but very fun.”
