CNG motorcycles Bajaj Auto’s next big bet for the future of two-wheelers: Details

Bajaj Auto is gearing up to introduce a lineup of CNG motorcycles, with the first model slated to debut in the upcoming fiscal year under a fresh brand, as confirmed by Bajaj Auto’s Executive Director, Rakesh Sharma, reported PTI.
The company is advocating for a reduction in GST on CNG bikes to around 12 percent, aiming to replicate the success it’s seen in CNG three-wheelers within the motorcycle segment, ultimately serving as a transition to full electrification.Sharma expressed confidence in the viability of CNG as a beneficial option for the country, society, and riders, having already established its value in three-wheelers and now seeking to expand into two-wheelers.

While acknowledging the initial higher pricing of CNG bikes compared to their petrol counterparts due to manufacturing costs and specialized tanks, Sharma emphasized the need for governmental support through reduced GST rates. The launch of CNG bikes is anticipated to cater to mileage-conscious consumers and will introduce a new brand identity. However, the extent of their contribution to overall sales remains uncertain, contingent on factors such as the availability of CNG filling stations and consumer preferences.
Bajaj Auto’s commitment to sustainable mobility extends beyond CNG, with a strong emphasis on electric vehicles alongside conventional and flex fuel offerings. This approach will be showcased at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo, demonstrating the company’s comprehensive strategy towards environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
