The Power looked likely victors for most of the night, but as they have done on so many times, the Pies somehow found a way in the thrilling final quarter to win by two points.

Elliott was once again the hero with his stunning set shot from the boundary line with three minutes remaining giving his side the lead.

The star forward has been at the centre of so many match-winning moments for his side with this latest goal reminiscent of last year’s after-the-siren winner against Essendon.

“Accelerator, brake, Jamie Elliott,” Channel 7 commentator Hamish McLachlan said.

The match-winner said his ability to nail set shots is all down to his routine.

“Doesn’t matter what moment you’re in, whether it’s a high-pressure situation like that or it’s just a standard set shot,” he told Channel 7 after the match.

“Whatever it is, I’ve got a routine I stick to. It’s walk seven, jog seven then kick … it was a little tight on that boundary so couldn’t really get it in, but I just kicked through it. Hoped for the best and it went through.”

The Magpies trailed by 17 points at the final break but stormed home with six goals in the last stanza to pinch another scarcely believable comeback win and firm up their premiership favouritism.
