Colman Domingo Honors Chadwick Boseman, André Leon Talley at 2024 Met Gala

Colman Domingo is paying homage to two icons with his Met Gala look.

The Rustin star, 54, honored late stars Chadwick Boseman and André Leon Talley with his striking caped ensemble at the annual fashion event on Monday, May 6.

Speaking to Live from E!, Domingo explained of his look, “They both wore capes when they were at the Met. Everything I do, I feel like it’s gotta be for the culture. It’s gotta be more than just for me.” 

Domingo, who made his debut at this year’s Met Gala, noted, “I wanted to honor these brothers who were here before me as well.”

The actor wore a Willy Chavarria suit consisting of a bright white jacket with structured shoulders and a sweeping cape to the floor — reminiscent of Boseman’s iconic white caped Versace look worn at the 2018 Met Gala — and black wide-leg pants with a matching corsage and Christian Louboutin shoes.

He held a bouquet of white flowers wrapped in a black satin cloth and accentuated his outfit with silver and gold embellished jewelry by David Yurman as he sported gray contact lenses. 

Domingo’s caped suit also paid a touching nod to the many capes worn by Talley to the annual fashion event — where he worked as Vogue’s red carpet correspondent for several years — in what was the fashion journalist’s signature look. 

Boseman died at age 43 of colon cancer on Aug. 28, 2020, while Talley died at age 73 from illness on Jan. 18. 2022.

Meanwhile, at the Met, Domingo also named singer Erykah Badu and rapper Cardi B as the stars he was excited to mingle with.

“I’ve never met Cardi B and I’m really gagging,” the Oscar nominee told Live From E! about Cardi, 31, and Badu, 53, joining him at his table at the event. “I think I might just expire right there at the table.”
