Cricket News: Ravindra Jadeja’s Spectacular Catch Helps Debutant Mukesh Kumar Secure Maiden ODI Wicket in India vs West Indies Match

NEW DELHI: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is known for his three-dimensional ability on the field for Team India, and the first ODI against the West Indies on Thursday was no exception.

First, Jadeja played his part in the collapse of the West Indies batting line-up by taking three wickets (3/37 in six overs), resulting in the hosts bundling out for just 114 in 23 overs.

He was also present with the bat in the middle, scoring 16 not out, when skipperRohit Sharma hit the winning runs, a four off Gudakesh Motie in the 23rd over as India won the contest by 5 wickets. In between, as one of the best fielders around Jadeja took a stunning aerial catch to dismiss young Alick Athanaze (22). It was an important wicket for both India and debutant Mukesh Kumar, giving the pacer his maiden wicket in ODIs.

In the 8th over of the West Indies innings, left-hander Athanaze took a couple of steps down the track and tried to smash the good length delivery but was beaten by the extra bounce generated by Mukesh. The West Indian cut it hard towards Jadeja at backward point, but failed to get past the fielder. Jadeja jumped high and took a sharp aerial catch to end the promising knock.
The wicket ended a steady 38-run stand for the second wicket between Athanaze and opener Brandon King, which contributed in India bowling the hosts out for a small total in the end.
India then chased down the small 115-run target in the 23rd over to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series in Barbados.
