David Warner relieved after stolen baggy green returned during farewell Test

A relieved David Warner has had his prized baggy green cap returned to him.

Warner was shattered on the eve of his farewell Test when his backpack, containing two caps, was stolen while in transit between Melbourne and Sydney.

He began the final Test match of his glittering career in a replacement cap, but will have an extra spring in his step for the final three days of the clash against Pakistan.

“I’m pleased and relieved that I’ve got my baggy back in my hands,” Warner said in a video on Instagram.

“Any cricketer knows how special their cap is and I’ll cherish this for the rest of my life.”

He went on to thank Qantas, the freight company, the hotels and team management for their involvement.

“It’s a load off my shoulder going into the last couple of days. Really appreciate it so thank you all,” he added.

Warner was dismissed for 34 on Day 2 of his farewell Test at the SCG.

Playing his 112th and final Test match, Warner resumed on Thursday after surviving a tricky over on the opening day of the Test.

He showed his trademark aggressive style but was eventually out when he edged an Agha Salman delivery to Babar Azam in slips.

Warner was furious with himself and could be seen yelling on his way back to the pavilion.

He received a standing ovation as he trudged off knowing he probably won’t get another opportunity to make a century.

Warner will still likely have a chance to bat in the fourth innings of the match, but there is every chance his run scoring could be limited depending on what Australia are chasing.

Play at the SCG will resume at 10am AEDT with Australia 2-116 in reply to Pakistan’s 313 after bad light and rain ruined the final session on Thursday.
