Delhi Traffic Police: Independence Day 2023 traffic advisory: Routes to avoid & when

Delhi Police on Sunday issued a traffic advisory ahead of the 77th Independence Day to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on August 15, 2023. The Delhi Traffic Police has advised people to avoid certain roads and take alternate routes.

According to the advisory, there will be traffic restrictions around Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the country on August 15. The normal traffic movement will be closed from 4 am to 10 pm for the general public. Only authorized vehicles will be permitted, as per the advisory.

In total, eight roads will be closed to the general public on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its link road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover, as mentioned in the advisory.
Further, the advisory said that vehicles without parking labels for Independence Day should avoid C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.
People travelling from North Delhi to South Delhi and vice-vers should take alternative routes from Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjang Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, SP Marg, 11 Murti, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkuian Road, Rani Jhansi Road to reach their destinations, the advisory added.

Coming to the east-west corridor, commuters can take alternative routes of NH-24 (NH-9) Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road, under AllMS Flyover Ring Road, NH-24 (NH-9) Nizamuddin Khatta, Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramanian Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, SP Marg/Ridge Road, and vice versa, it stated. Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed, said the advisory.
Movement of goods vehicles will be prohibited between Nizamuddin and Wazirabad bridges from 12 am Monday to 11 am Tuesday on August 15. Interstate buses will also not be allowed between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT from 12 am Monday to 11 am on Tuesday (August 15, 2023, the advisory said.
City buses, including Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), will not ply on Ring Road from 12 am Monday to 11 am Tuesday between ISBT Kashmere Gate to NH-24 (NH-9)/NH T-point and should take alternative routes, says the advisory.
Buses ordinarily terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Delhi Main Railway Station will be curtailed or diverted. Normal bus service will be restored after 11 am Tuesday, the advisory stated.
All buses, otherwise terminating at Old Delhi Railway Station, Red Fort, Bhai Mati Dass Chowk, Mon Gate, ISBT Pragati Maidan and Ambedkar Stadium Terminal, shall terminate opposite Turkman Gate Asaf Ali Road, it added.
