Dmk: Former Tamil Nadu DGP booked for ‘malicious’ post on DMK government | India News

CHENNAI/TRICHY: The Trichy cybercrime police booked former Tamil Nadu DGP R Nataraj on Friday for “spreading malicious messages” against the DMK government via WhatsApp. A case has been registered against Nataraj under sections of the IPC and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Speaking at a wedding in Chennai on Friday, chief minister M K Stalinsaid action had been initiated against “a senior police officer”, whom he did not wish to name, for indulging in “false propaganda.” “According to him, I had stated that we (the DMK) did not need Hindu votes and that we could win without them,” said Stalin.He said some people were trying to bring down the Dravidian model administration through such false propaganda and people should use the ensuing (Lok Sabha) elections to defeat them.
Nataraj has been booked on charges of “promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds, intentionally insulting to give provocation to break public peace, circulating rumours with an intent to cause fear or alarm to the public whereby any person may be induced to commit any offence against the state, spreading statements promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes, and for cheating by personation through the means of communication devices”.
The case has been registered based on a complaint filed by advocate P Sheela of Karumandapam in Trichy.
