Dog spooked by Sunshine Coast storms gets trapped overnight on ledge in Glasshouse Mountains

A dog has spent a night on the ledge of a Queensland mountain after running off scared by thunder and lightning.

The dog, named Cooper, went missing from his home in the Glasshouse Mountains, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, during a storm about 6pm on Wednesday.

The owners went looking for their pet and heard barking “from the back of Mt Ngungun”, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services’ Scott Daly said.

“Turns out the dog was about 20m up, on a little ledge,” he told 7NEWS.

Cooper remained there overnight “throughout all the thunderstorms and lightning”, Daly said.

Rescue crews then worked through “steep, slippery conditions” to get Cooper safely back on the ground.

“We were able to gain access to that dog, put him in a little harness and bring him down to ground safely,” Daly said.

He said Cooper was in “good spirits” and “very happy to see its owners and get down to the ground”.

Daly said the “exhausted pooch” seemed very thankful to be rescued and enjoyed a big drink of water before being reunited with his family.
