Dominique Fishback wanted to feel like royalty at the 2024 Emmys, and that’s exactly what she got with her glittering, baby blue Miu Miu dress.
“From the moment Madison [Guest] and I started working together, I said I was a Brooklyn Princess,” she tells Vogue. For her part, Guest, Fishback’s stylist, knew that the dress was perfect from the moment she saw it. “She has a deep love for romance in film and both the silhouette and bodice details felt like they were borrowed from an old Hollywood starlet,” she says. “A true Cinderella moment for a girl who’s living the fairy tale.”
But at the end of the day, Fishback still didn’t want to lose herself in the fantasy of it all, using her dark lip and piecey ponytail to add an edge to her look. After all, the actor more than proved her grit in Swarm, playing an R&B singer’s unrelenting, crazed fan.
For all the (very well-deserved) recognition she’s received this awards season, Fishback has managed to keep her head on her shoulders. She cited advice she received from her friend, Kyla Pratt: “Making art is the thing that we love and this is just the fun part, so just enjoy it, see your friends and colleagues, and have a good time,” she told Vogue. (Though she admits there is one person who would send her into a tailspin. “Please, Lord, let Meryl Streep be there, and let her know who I am, and be like, ‘Oh Dominique, I love you,’” she joked.)
Like many other nominees, Fishback was just trying to stay in the moment, taking her morning to meditate and listen to gospel music. And as for the after party? “[My mom]’s going to be on the dance floor,” she said. “I’m going to be the one sitting down with my shoes off.”
