“We hoped 2023 would be the year the neighborhood returned to the way it was pre-pandemic, however that hasn’t been the case,” owner Umberto Gibin shared in an Instagram post. “We appreciate each of you for allowing us to serve you over the years, whether it was lunch with coworkers, a date night after a long day, or a meal at one of our many pasta dinners.”
Barbacco is the casual sister restaurant to Perbacco, an upscale Italian restaurant that neighbors it in the Financial District. Gibin’s team will now devote its full attention to Perbacco, which “has fared much better and is set to take on the upcoming season with plenty of celebratory meals, holiday parties, and a new happy hour menu,” Gibin wrote on Instagram.

He told the Chronicle that while Barbacco has seen lunch business from office workers, dinner service has been too quiet for comfort since January.
Barbacco first opened in 2010, serving fresh pasta like orecchiette with spiced fennel pork sausage and fettuccine bolognese, as well as lunch options like the prosciutto cotto sandwich. The restaurant’s final day of service will be Friday, Sept. 29.
