Channel Seven star and veterinarian Dr Chris Brown has issued an “apology” after a “casual” post sparked a frenzy online.
It all started when Dr Chris took to social media to talk about a bizarre phenomenon that was occurring at his Bondi vet clinic.
His video was captioned: “The warning no vet wants to give … This actually happened. And will happen again next week.”

The post went on to explain how many pet owners were mistakenly trying to tweezer off their pets’ nipples – thinking they were in fact ticks.
“The moment tick season begins, which is now, I see a dog a week in the vet hospital where their owner has tried to remove their nipple,” Dr Chris said in the footage.
“Both male and female pets have eight of them, sometimes 10.”
Viewers were gobsmacked by Dr Chris’ post – for several reasons – and days later he felt compelled to address the furore.
“I feel like I should apologise. I may have blown a lot of minds when I casually dropped the fact that both male dogs and cats have nipples on my last post,” Dr Chris shared in a new post on his Drool by Dr Chris Brown Instagram page.
The most common question was WHY?! And why so many?! So I thought I’d explain…
“Just be prepared for more shocks. And the best dinner party conversation ever 🤯”
Dr Chris went on to reveal more.
“Both male and female cats and dogs typically have either 8-10 nipples. Or if they channel Harry Styles, maybe they have 9 or 11. Which is…a lot. And despite what some Droolers thought, de-sexing doesn’t make the nipples disappear,” he wrote.
“So why do male cats and dogs get them in the first place? After all, it’s not like they’ll be producing milk. Well, as the male owner of two myself, the answer is actually pretty fascinating. And it’s found in the womb…
“You see, even though a pet pregnancy is comparatively quick (roughly nine weeks in both dogs and cats), the all-important nipples actually develop BEFORE that foetus becomes either male or female at six weeks of age. So it’s all timing. And weirdly, nipples are prioritised. It’s a case of nipples before other ‘bits’. Or NBOB.
“So there you go, the fact (and acronym) you never thought you’d learn. You’re welcome!”
