Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is world’s most powerful single-cylinder motorcycle with 76 hp!

Ducati has unveiled the Hypermotard 698 Mono as the world’s most powerful single-cylinder engine motorcycle! The new Hypermotard 698 Mono makes use of Ducati’s first single-cylinder engine in 30 years, i.e. the 659 cc liquid-cooled Superquadro Mono that puts out 76 horsepower at 9,750 rpm and 63 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.
With the optional Termignoni exhaust (for track-use), the power figure goes up to a whopping 84 hp at 9,500 rpm! The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter, and revs all the way up to 10,250 rpm.The Hypermotard 698 Mono is “designed and built to achieve maximum performance on asphalt”.

This engine is derived from the twin-cylinder engine of the 1299 Panigale, from which it inherits the 116 mm bore piston, combustion chamber, titanium intake and steel exhaust valves as well as the Desmodromic distribution – the same solution that Ducati uses in its MotoGP operations. The new Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono has a dry weight of just over 151 kg.
“Hypermotard 698 Mono combines the vocation for fun typical of a supermotard with the precise front-end behavior of Ducati sports bikes. It does so by focusing on three areas, namely, the combination of steering geometry and wheelbase, low front wheel inertia, and weight distribution, with greater load at the front compared to other bikes in the segment,” said Ducati.
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono could also be brought to India as the company’s most affordable offering, with a launch expected sometime next year.
