Duke and Duchess of Sussex to help ‘educate’ on bias against black women

“We believe in the pursuit of finding purpose, belonging, and joy, and are dedicated to helping as many people as possible to achieve it. We are committed to a simple but profound mission – to show up and do good.”

Archewell’s work has been grouped into three themes this year: “uplifting communities”, “building a better online world” and “restoring trust in information”.

The Georgetown Law project, the report says, is “building on a previous partnership to explore adultification-bias and the inequities faced by black girls in the justice, education and medical systems”.

Adultification bias means that adults view black girls as less innocent and more adult-like than their white peers, according to studies.

Supporting refugee women

Other projects focus on supporting refugee women and families, with a version of the Grenfell Tower Hubb Community Kitchen, and hosting a parents’ summit and insight sessions about the harm caused by social media.

They have helped to build a new playground in Uvalde, Texas, following a school shooting in which 19 pupils and two teachers were killed, in partnership with a charity called KABOOM!

Archewell is also supporting organisations that help combat misinformation and fill the gaps left by the closure of local newspapers in America.

“As we seek the creation of a better, more trustworthy, and diverse information environment across all forms of media, we support research and organisations creating a more informed, fact-based, and more connected world,” the report states.
