EV fire strikes again in Bengaluru: Compact electric car engulfed in flames

While EV sales are growing rapidly in the country, especially in the two-wheeler segment, time and again something happens that raises safety concerns regarding the electric vehicles amongst the potential customers. A video of a compact electric car engulfed in flames near Dalmia Circle in Bengaluru went viral on social media.
As seen in the video, the EV was parked on the side of the road, bursting into black flames. The fire quickly spread and even a blast was heard as the traffic was blocked in both directions. The car was completely destroyed and was reduced to ashes.

While the make and model of the EV is not clearly not identifiable, the incident, yet again has sparked debates over the safety of EVs. Several users tried guessing the model of the car as some argued that it was the old Mahindra EV, the e20. There were no injuries reported in the incident. Also, the reason behind the fire is yet to be known.

In recent times, several EVs have caught fire and the government had to intervene to issue stricter guidelines to inspect electric vehicles batteries in order to curb the increasing case of EV fires. Several manufacturers, in fact, some two-wheeler EV manufacturers recalled thousands of EVs for battery check-ups.
Besides this, EV manufacturers need to ensure more rigorous safety testing and use more advanced battery management systems. Consumers should also be aware of the potential risks associated with electric vehicles and take steps to mitigate these risks.
