Ferrari electric car concept undergoing smartphone-like testing phase: CEO

As per Reuters, Ferrari’s Chief Executive, Benedetto Vigna, revealed on Thursday that the company is expediting the development of its first fully electric car, slated for a late 2025 release, by adopting a technique commonly used in electronic device testing.
Vigna, previously associated with chipmaker STMicroelectronics, informed journalists that Ferrari is utilizing the “Hardware in the Loop” (HIP) testing technique, typically reserved for smartphones or computers, to simulate the product’s behaviors under varying conditions.

“We have also adopted it for cars,” Vigna stated, emphasizing that this method facilitates the acceleration of the electronic system’s debugging phase. According to him, this approach has already resolved certain issues that would traditionally emerge during the later stages of development for their hybrid models.
Currently in the prototype phase, the Ferrari EV remains on track for its planned timeline. Vigna assured that the company is meeting its targets not only for the vehicle’s development but also for the infrastructure, with the new assembly facility, the ‘e-building,’ in Maranello set to be finished by June next year.
