Florence Pugh’s Governor’s Awards Hair Was Part Princess, Part Punk — See the Photos

Since debuting a full-on shaved head at the 2023 Met Gala, Florence Pugh has been giving us a total masterclass in growing out a buzz cut. Over the past year, we’ve seen her hair evolve in myriad ways, including a faded pink pixie and Guy Fieri-esque spiky platinum blonde. For the Governor’s Awards on January 9, the Oppenheimer star took short hair styling to new heights with a look that was half retro Marilyn Monroe curls and half flipped-out punky glamour.

Pugh’s pale blonde hair has grown out enough for more adventurous styling, just in time for awards season. Hairstylist Adir Abergel, who frequently works with the actor and crafted her faux-hawk for the 2024 Golden Globes, was behind the half-and-half style. Abergel parted Pugh’s platinum blonde hair to one side and styled the larger portion in soft, vintage-inspired curls similar to those worn by Monroe and her fellow ‘50s starlets. The other side was flicked and flipped out in varying directions for a done-yet-undone vibe that perfectly suits Pugh’s rebellious, fun-loving spirit.

“Bringing new to Old Hollywood glamour,” Abergel wrote on Instagram Stories about Pugh’s Governor’s Awards look. It’s giving Marilyn meets Peter Pan in the absolute coolest way, but then again, we wouldn’t expect anything less from Miss Flo.
