Former Supreme Court Justice allegedly sang to complainants before altercation – National news

Newly released body camera footage from the Paradise Valley Police Department in Arizona shows retired Supreme Court of Canada Justice Russell Brown singing “in a tuxedo” before an alleged alcohol-fueled confrontation that led to his resignation. In the video, one of the women can be heard saying, “Justin’s going to love this,” referring to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The footage was captured in the early morning hours of January 29 at an Arizona resort. The video also captures the women giving their account to police, with one officer apologizing for the incident. The confrontation was cited as a key factor in Brown’s retirement statement, which claimed that he was punched by a 31-year-old ex-Marine without provocation. The Canadian Judicial Council (CJC) launched a review of Brown’s alleged conduct, but it ended when Brown announced his retirement. Chief Justice Richard Wagner had recommended a public inquiry, but that will not happen now. The lack of transparency in Canadian institutions regarding the incident has raised concerns in the legal community. The ex-Marine, Jonathan Crump, reported the incident to the police, claiming that he punched Brown because he was acting “creepy” towards the women in the group. Crump alleges that Brown was hitting on and touching the women and tried to follow them to their hotel room. The police report mentions that alcohol was smelled on the witnesses. Crump’s actions were deemed reasonable and necessary by the police, and no crime was committed.
