Epic Games is taking Fortnite, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, Battle Royale, Creative, Save the World and LEGO Fortnite offline for the release of update 29.20. The new Fortnite download is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Android on the morning of April 9. Unfortunately, the big new update will be accompanied by an even bigger period of server downtime, which will last for at least two hours, but probably even longer. This means you won’t be able to join in and play any of the aforementioned Fortnite experiences until the game is back online. You can check out the Fortnite server downtime schedule for dates and timings below.

The news was announced by Epic Games on X (formerly Twitter), alongside details on when servers will be taken offline for maintenance.

“Downtime for v29.20 begins at 4 AM ET with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand,” reads a Fortnite tweet.

For UK fans, this means that Fortnite will be taken offline in full at 9am BST, while matchmaking will be disabled at 8.30am.

Epic hasn’t revealed exactly when downtime will come to an end, but maintenance typically lasts for around a couple of hours.

This means Fortnite, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival should all be back online from 11am BST UK time.

The next update will add new Avatar the Last Airbender skins, which will be available from the item shop later this week.

This includes Katara, Toph, Zuko, as well as Aang as part of the Event Pass. In addition to the Avatar skins, fans can expect new harvesting tools, emotes and back bling.

It’s likely the Tactical AR will also be unvaulted as part of the update, while new LEGO styles will also be added.

But it’s Rocket Racing that will benefit most from the new update, as Epic Games introduces a new season.

Rocket Racing Season 1 will add new courses, vehicles, decals and unlockable rewards.
