Fox’s Nick Wright — one of the Bay Area’s longtime needlers in the sports talk show circuit — isn’t just betting against the 49ers in Jacksonville on Sunday, he’s funding a Jaguars tailgate so they can get ripped while watching it happen.

After Jags fan podcast Dunn and Drew put out a call on X, formerly known as Twitter, for donations to their tailgate for Sunday, Wright reached out and asked how much they were looking for before dropping a significant amount.

“I just sent $500 but be careful!” Wright posted. “Can’t have alcohol poisoning on my conscience. Also, y’all are gonna wanna be sober-adjacent to watch the Jags beat the Niners. Enjoy!”

These days, Wright has softened some on the Warriors. He famously joined Warriors podcast “Light Years” before the 2022 NBA Finals to discuss the “growing admiration” for the Dubs. Wright even correctly picked the Warriors to beat the Celtics and correctly pointed out that the “two timelines” plan didn’t help them win it.

But for Bay Area sports fans with deep wounds, Wright’s still not to be trusted — and he’s showing why with his takes this week, doubting whether Brock Purdy is really the guy for the 49ers under center.

“[When] leading or tied, [Purdy] looks like, ‘Is that the league MVP?’” Wright said on Thursday. “And trailing, that looks like a guy who could end up — when they lose this week — being on the quarterback hot seat.”

Wright also brought up the idea that, if Purdy plays poorly against Jacksonville this weekend, the 49ers should consider benching him — and bashed the Trey Lance trade all over again.

49ers fans would love for Wright to have to eat his words this weekend, like he’s had to do so many times about the Warriors over the years.
