This year has seen Salma Hayek serving. Whether she’s showing off her luminous, makeup-free skin on horseback or her enviable wardrobe of swimwear, Hayek is always a sight to behold. Naturally, she’s rounding off the year with yet another excellent look.
This time, she wowed alongside her friend and fellow actor, Penélope Cruz. At a lunch she threw to celebrate Cruz’s role in Michael Mann’s forthcoming film Ferrari, the two brunettes frolicked in front of the camera, smiling as they took selfies. Cruz and Hayek starred together in the 2006 film Bandidas, and have been close friends ever since, with Hayek previously describing Penélope as being “like a sister to me.”

From their manicures–Cruz with a glossy burnished red hue, and Hayek with ballet pink–to their minimal makeup looks (nude lips, perfect skin, and some subtle liner) both women looked effortlessly good. Their hairstyles are worth a mention, too. Cruz’s glossy half-up pony was secured with a chic grosgrain ribbon, while Cruz’s dark, center-parted hair featured lots of layers–and a few natural grays.
At 49 and 57 respectively, both Cruz and Hayek are examples of women in the public eye who shun the outdated idea that getting older has to be dull. We all know that isn’t true. But Cruz and Hayek make a point of having fun, posing semi-naked in Instagram snaps (we’re looking at you Salma), and celebrating one another’s successes. With its many ups and downs, womanhood may not always look this good–even for this dynamic duo–but it’s always positive to see its highs represented in celebrity culture.
