From Stefon Diggs to Angel Reese, Here Are the Athletes Who Touched Down at the 2024 Met Gala

The overlap between sports and fashion is spectacularly strong in popular culture right now. The past year saw the two worlds collide in everything from endorsement deals to special product lines to red carpet turns and tunnel walk moments—to say nothing of Taylor Swift’s tango with the NFL, and the buzzy premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, outfitted by one Jonathan Anderson.

The other examples are myriad: the WNBA’s number one draft pick, Caitlin Clark, wore Prada—to much fanfare—when she was picked by the Indiana Fever in April. (It was the first time a luxury fashion label had dressed any basketball player, female or male, during a draft.) LeBron James starred in Pharrell Williams’s first campaign for Louis Vuitton’s menswear. Taylor Fritz, the best American men’s tennis player on the tour right now, recently switched his title sponsorship from sportswear giant Nike to the more fashion-forward Boss. And, speaking of Nike, Bode–the American fashion industry darling–is a recent collaborator. LVMH is a premium partner at the Paris Olympics this summer. And this little list only barely scratches the surface–there’s so much more.

Yet sports and fashion have long found common ground at Vogue—and at the Met Gala, especially. Athletes such as Serena Williams, Tom Brady, Simone Biles, Naomi Osaka, Megan Rapinoe, Lewis Hamilton, Russell Westbrooke, and many, many others have attended the event often over the years.

So, which ballers, players, and other athletes graced the Met Gala carpet in 2024?

Odell Beckham Jr. come through in a boxy double-breasted suit jacket with floral and filigree embroideries. Hamilton, who just raced in Miami on Sunday, wore bespoke Burberry by Daniel Lee. Serena Williams wore golden Balenciaga—with a matching, extraordinary hairpiece. Her sister, Venus, wore mirror-sequined Marc Jacobs. Nelly Korda, the world’s number one women’s golfer, wore a pretty poppy-embroidered dress. Angel Reese wore pale seafoam custom 16Arlington. Dwyane Wade sported Versace and Cartier. And there were many more. For our full roundup of athletes at the Met Gala 2024, see below.
