Fungus found on Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate bar sparks debate

Research says that eating chocolate can lead to short-term mood improvement and can make one ‘feel good’ for a while. But, what if you open the wrapper and find that your favourite chocolate is laced with fungus? Well, it is sure that it will upset you and that is what happened with a Hyderabad resident, who found fungus on a Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate bar.
The resident who runs the X handle @goooofboll shared a tweet of the experience and in no time it went viral.Interestingly, the user also shared that the chocolate was manufactured in January 2024 and was well within its expiry date.

“The manufacturing of these dairy milk is January 2024, expiry is best before 12 months from manufacture. Found them like this when I opened it. Look into this DairyMilkIn,” the consumer wrote while sharing images.
The user posted four pictures that revealed the extent of the chocolate’s deterioration. The images showed white fungus, a large hole at the back, and melted sides.

At the time of writing this news piece, it had received 598k views, 4.1k likes and 280 replies on X.

The post has gone viral, where a user commented, “Why people still buy and eat Cadbury chocolates specially dairy milk in India? These are the worst chocolates with poor quality and poor taste made for Indian market.”
And another consumer, sharing a similar experience wrote, ‘I had similar experience with DairyMilkIn 100rs bar had to throw it away Didn’t cared about it but that is something they should look at.’
And a user highlighted the concern and commented, ‘New fear unlocked as I eat melted dairy milk directly from wrapper and don’t even look it’.
Several others recommended that the user should take the matter to consumer court.
In response to the post, Cadbury wrote, “”Hi, Mondelez India Foods Private Limited (formerly Cadbury India Ltd) endeavours to maintain the highest quality standards, and we regret to note that you have had an unpleasant experience. To enable us to address your concern, please write to us at….”
