Garmin Venu 2 Plu and Garmin D2 Air X10 Smart Watches warnings over issues with software

An urgent warning has been issued for two models of Garmin Smart Watches because of an issue with the device’s software.

Product Safety Australia said the watches, sold nationally and through Garmin’s website, are at risk of overheating because of an error with the LED which can cause the watches to short circuit.

This can cause blistering of the skin and irritation.

The Garmin Venu 2 Plus, sold between November 8 2021 and August 25, 2023 and the Garmin D2 Air X10 sold between January 24, 2022 and August 25, 2023 have been affected by the recall.

Product identification of “Venu 2 Plus” or “D2 Air X10” are marked on the back case of the watches.

“The light-emitting diode (LED) of the optical heart rate (OHR) sensor in affected smartwatches may experience a localised short-circuit,” the recall said.

“There is a risk of skin irritation or blistering to the area of skin underneath the OHR sensor from the heat of the smartwatch LED.”

The watches require an immediate software update to correct the defect.

“Consumers should connect/sync their affected Garmin smartwatch with the Garmin Connect mobile app to receive this update,” the ACCC said.
