Gintonica, an Online Craft Gin Retailer, Enters Administration

An online alcohol retailer that specializes in Australian craft gin has gone into administration just a month after announcing it was up for sale.

According to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Gintonica went into insolvency on June 21, with David Ross from I & R Advisory appointed as administrator.

Gintonica’s founder David Box had posted on social media last month that after six years he was selling the company.

“Time to pass the baton to fresh passion, new ideas and better skill sets,” he wrote.

Box said he would still remain in the industry, but with a focus on contract bottling.

Since shutting up shop last week, Gintonica has suspended the processing of any orders on its website.

Gintonica had sold tasting sets, samples and gift sets, showcasing products from “micro and regional distilleries”, according to its website.

“Gintonica’s vision is to be the central resource for everything gin, from botanicals to recipes, pairings to makers, and everything in between,” the company wrote.

The news follows the collapse of Australian alcohol retailer and delivery service Boozebud, which went into voluntary administration last month.

The company, which stocks and delivers alcohol brands across the country, announced the news in a statement on its website advising it was no longer accepting orders.

Boozebud, previously known as BeerBud, was founded in 2014 by Alex Gale and Mark Woollcott but was later sold to Carlton United Breweries’ then owner, AB InBev, in 2016.
