Google engineer found ‘spattered in blood’ after alleged murder of wife

NEW DELHI: A Google software engineer was discovered covered in blood following an alleged murder of his wife in their California home, according to local authorities. The Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office released a statement saying that the incident occurred at the residence of 27-year-old Liren Chen in Santa Clara, California, just a few miles away from Google’s headquarters in Silicon Valley.
Chen and his wife, Xuanyi Yu, were employees of the tech giant Google at the time of the incident. Both Xuanyi Yu and Liren Chen studied at Tsinghua University in China and the University of California San Diego.
According to Fox News, the police were alerted of the situation after an acquaintance of Chen expressed concerns about the couple on January 16. This person reported seeing Chen through a window, kneeling motionless with his hands raised. When the police arrived, Chen refused to answer their calls or open the door. However, the officers managed to gain entry into the house and discovered Chen near his wife’s lifeless body. Chen’s right hand was described as extremely swollen and purple, while his wife had suffered severe blunt force injuries to her head.
Following the attack, Chen was found with blood on his clothing, legs, arms and hands, along with scratches on his arm. He has since been charged with murder and is currently hospitalized, causing a delay in his arraignment until January 22, according to court records.
“Domestic violence deaths have been falling in our county but that does not measure the depth and destructiveness of the violence,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a press release. “Anyone who feels that they or someone else is being abused by their partners, please reach out your local law enforcement agency. You are not alone. We can help.”
Google spokesperson Bailey Tomson also expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy, offering condolences to Xuanyi’s family and assuring support for both them and their colleagues.
