Chromebooks are popular for their affordability and user-friendly interface. This haphazard experience can be confusing, especially for new users. Google is now testing a new feature for Chromebook users that is expected to streamline the experience for users.

Chromebook App Mall: What to expect

According to a report by GizmoChina, Google is testing a new “App Mall” which is expected to streamline the Chromebook experience by offering a one-stop shop for users to discover and install apps. While details about the featured apps are yet to be revealed, it’s expected that the store may include Android and web apps and even games.
The functionality of the “App Mall” is currently hidden behind a flag in the settings of the latest version of the Google Chrome browser. This flag points to a website called “discover.apps.chrome.” However, the website is not live yet, the flag suggests that there is an upcoming online store. This store is expected to enhance the app discovery experience on Chromebooks. This rumoured app store aligns with Google’s recent efforts to improve the Chrome browser. The latest release (M121) of the browser also includes three new generative AI features for users in the US. These features are available on both Mac and Windows PCs.
The latest features include AI Tab Groups for organising open tabs automatically, Custom Themes with AI for creating personalised themes using a text-to-image diffusion model and “Help Me Write,” is an AI-powered writing assistance tool which is set to launch in the next release.
