Group Resolves San Jose Brutalist Building Dispute, Shifts Focus to Preserving “Endangered 8”

A San Jose group has decided to end its legal battle over a brutalist building in downtown San Jose. The Preservation Action Council has dropped its legal challenges against the city’s decision to demolish the building at 199 Park Avenue. The group lost a state Court of Appeal ruling that upheld the approval process for a big tech campus at CityView Plaza, which also allowed for the removal of structures. The preservationists are now focusing on saving “Endangered Eight,” a set of structures, including an abandoned church. The group is also concerned about a building at 284 West St. John Street, which was the birthplace of Silicon Valley’s first computer disk drive. The preservationists are urging the city to intervene and protect these historic buildings.
