It might just be the hottest show in heaven or hell right now as the Broadway production of Hadestown prepares to transfer to London.

The show will start previews on February 10 ahead of the official opening on February 21.

This week, excited fans and total newbies saw the show debut the track Wait For Me at the AO Arena in Manchester for the Big Night of Musicals 2024 by the National Lottery, which is being broadcast by BBC 1 tonight and then on BBC iPlayer.

The response to the show has been so huge that the producers have announced it will extend another five months through to December this year.

The show previously had a sold-out limited run at the National Theatre at the end of 2018 before it launched on Broadway in March 2019.

Now the UK cast are busy in rehearsals, led by The Wheel of Time’s Dónal Finn as Orpheus and Grace Hodgett Young (Sunset Boulevard) as Eurydice.

The pair play the mythic tragic lovers from Greek myth whose fates became entangled in the Underworld with the messy love lives of the gods Hades and Persephone (Zachary James and Gloria Onitiri).

In this radical reimagining by Anais Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin, which had humble beginnings in 2006, the setting has been cleverly updated with almost steampunk industrial influences.

The show’s soundtrack is a heady and euphoric blend of American folk and New Orleans jazz that has been streamed over 350 million times.

Meanwhile, the Broadway run has been garlanded with awards, including a Grammy for the soundtrack and eight Tonys, topped by the Best Musical gong.

Just like the original myth, the show asks how far any of us would go for love – just don’t look back…
