Happiness of my life is gone, says girl’s dad, demands probe | India News

Manya’s father Rajesh Kumar Damerla, a software engineer, suspected his daughter died by drowning, but demanded a detailed probe by the police. Meanwhile, other residents staged a protest, saying it was a case of electrocution as there had been instances of people suffering electric shocks near the swimming pool in the past.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the girl’s parents, who travelled to their hometown in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to conduct the final rites.Manya was the only child of Rajesh Damerla and Vinaya Damerla.
Rajesh told the cops: “Since it’s the holidays, Manya and I played inside our house till Thursday evening. Later, she went to play with her friends near the pool and I went for a walk. A few minutes later, I received a call from a neighbour saying Manya had drowned in the pool. I rushed to the hospital and doctors told me she is dead.”
Asked if he suspected foul play or wanted a case filed against anyone, the father told media persons on Friday: “We want to know the root cause of the tragedy, and who should be held responsible. The happiness of my life is gone. I am told she received electric shocks and people around the pool tried to save her by throwing wooden materials like chairs and sticks into the pool. I seek a detailed police investigation… My daughter won’t come back to life, but I want to ensure other kids here are safe.”
DCP (Whitefield) Shivakumar Ganare said a case of unnatural death had been registered, and the policemen were waiting for the detailed autopsy and forensic reports.
The swimming pool area did not have any CCTV coverage, which was hampering investigation, an officer added.
