Hawke Earns First Team All-America Honors in 500 Freestyle

INDIANAPOLISCharlie Hawke earned Alabama’s first First Team All-America honor in the 500 freestyle since 1982, posting a fifth-place finish in the event to lead the Tide on the second night of the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

Hawke swam a 4:11.40 to finish fifth overall in the finals. The time surpassed his entry and prior school record swim of 4:11.62 from the Southeastern Conference Championships. Preceding his race in the A finals, Hawke used an electrifying 4:11.02 to top his school record in the event and earn a spot in the top heat.

Alabama concluded the second day of competition tied for 16th place in the team standings with 26 points.

  • Finished seventh in the prelims to earn a spot in the A Finals
