NEW DELHI: After a humiliating defeat in the Centurion Test — India’s worst ever on South African soil — the team is leaving no stone unturned as the players have been involved in intense training sessions ahead of the second and the final Test, commencing Wednesday in Cape Town.
Looking to level the series, the team think tank has a lot of work to do, one of them involving the right playing combination.
With another green top set to be used for the second Test, legendary Sunil Gavaskar weighed in on the team combination, pointing out he sees a couple of changes in the Indian XI for the game.
“Not too many changes but I think, Jadeja, once he is fit, he will walk back into the team at the expense of R Ashwin. That’s what it looks to me because Ashwin was hardly used in the previous game and there could be a change in terms of new ball bowling with Mukesh Kumar coming in place of Prasidh Krishna,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
As Jadeja missed the first Test due to back spasms, Ashwin was included in the XI but had a below-par outing, taking a solitary wicket.
Debutant Prasidh too looked completely out of sorts as he leaked too many runs and managed a single wicket as well.
With Jadeja turning full throttle and Mukesh looking confident after a fine white-ball leg, Gavaskar suggested the two would find a spot in the XI.
As the Proteas currently have an unassailable lead, India can only manage to draw the series if they win the Cape Town Test.
