‘Heartbreaking’: Nancy Pelosi Expresses Deep Sadness Over Jan. 6 Indictment Against Trump

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) expressed her sadness and concern over Donald Trump’s indictment for attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election. She described it as “heartbreaking” for the country. Trump will be arraigned on four felony counts, including conspiracy to defraud the U.S. According to Special Counsel Jack Smith, the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, was fueled by Trump’s continuous lies about election fraud. Pelosi, who was inside the Capitol when Trump’s supporters stormed it, found it disheartening to witness an ex-president facing such charges. During an interview with CNN’s “The Lead,” she also mentioned her pride in the House select committee’s investigation of January 6, stating that the majority of the criminal charges brought against Trump aligned with the committee’s recommendations. Trump is expected to plead not guilty. Additionally, he is facing prosecution in New York for his involvement in a hush-money scheme with adult film actress Stormy Daniels, as well as federal court proceedings in Florida for mishandling classified documents. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has claimed to be a victim due to his 2024 presidential campaign. He may also face election-related prosecution in Georgia, where Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis has mentioned making charging decisions this month.
