Hero dog save pregnant owner from burning Western Sydney home

A pet dog has been hailed a hero for helping alert its owners their house in Sydney’s northwest was up in flames.

The fire started at about 10.30pm at the home in Seven Hills while the home’s occupants, a 45-year-old man and a pregnant 30-year-old woman, were asleep.

“We had flames coming out of every window and reports there may have been persons trapped inside,” Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman, Kernin Lambert, said.

The couple managed to escape moments before the timber home was destroyed by flamed fuelled by materials including a barbecue gas cylinder.

The 45-year-old man was taken to hospital for minor burns, while the 30-year-old was treated for smoke inhalation.

Neighbour Thomas McBride said the homeowner’s pet dog began loudly barking to alert its owners to the fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW said the cause of the fire was an unattended hookah or shisha water pipe with a flexible tube that is used for smoking tobacco.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident,” a spokesperson said.
