Hideo Kojima teams up with Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele for his horror game, OverDose

During The Game Awards, Hideo Kojima unveiled his next. The titled Overdose, and it’s being developed in partnership with Xbox. Joining Kojima is director Jordan Peele, who has won an Oscar for his work on films such as Us and Get Out. Peele has mentioned that the game will be unlike any other and promises to be quite a wild ride. Actors Hunter Schafer, Sophia Lillis, and Udo Kier are set to perform in the game.
“A Hideo Kojima game, OD explores the concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear–while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film,” reads the description for the game.
According to Kojima, his studio, Kojima Productions, is collaborating with Xbox Game Studios to develop a unique and immersive game that has never been seen before. They are using the cloud gaming technology of Xbox Game Studios to make the game.
“It is a game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s also a movie, and at the same time, a new form of media,” Kojima said.
The teaser trailer for the upcoming game doesn’t reveal much about its plot. It features close-up shots of actors Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. All three recite a peculiar line, “The hungry purple dinosaur ate the kind, zingy fox, the jabbering crab, and the mad whale and started vending and quacking.”
Kojima’s OD may share similarities with another of Kojima’s projects, titled Silent Hills, which onamiKO has cancelled. Fans speculate that Guillermo Del Toro may also be involved.
There is no information available yet on the release date of Overdose. Kojima Productions is currently working on at least two games, including the sequel to Death Stranding.
