On the previous game: “Although I didn’t have a spectacular game against Northern Ireland, it was a very useful test for me. The team had a good attitude. After the game we were upset, it was normal, we would have liked to win.”

“I tried certain things, I tried certain experiments, I performed them. We are at a time when we can do that. The same will happen in the friendly with Colombia. We are talking about a game of a completely different level (…) There will be many changes, it is a risk when you do this. But this depends on the strategy we have”.

About the opponent: “They have different characteristics from Spain, they have been undefeated for a lot of dates, it is a fact to take into account. One of their strengths is that they have no problem giving the ball away, defending in a low block and counter attacking. We have to be smart to move at high speed”.

“If we look back, expectations have grown because of what has been done. When we took over the National Team it was complicated to think that we were candidates or could fight for the Copa America. We understand that we have to go with moderation.”

On the renewal in Colombia: “There are young players, it is another thing if they are expected to play. There has been a change, players who were not there have appeared. The intention is there, but not everything can be all at once, there are things that have to go slowly and thinking about the future. Hopefully in the Copa América can be those who deserve it”.

The first duel between the two teams took place in the group stage of the 1994 World Cup in the Rose Bowl Stadium in the United States. In this first match, the Romanians won with a score of 1-3.

The most recent match played between Europeans and South Americans took place last Saturday, May 27, 2006, in a friendly game, the result on that occasion was a 0-0 draw at Soldier Field Stadium in the city of Chicago (United States).

Against Colombia, the Oaks have their biggest test before facing their debut at the European Championship, where they will share a group with Belgium, Slovakia and an opponent to be confirmed. Romania is also on a 12-match unbeaten streak, having qualified for the competition without losing a single match.

The Colombian team has been very calm in the days leading up to this game against Romania, while keeping in mind the aspects that must be improved in the course of each game, in order to try to have more moments like the second half against the Spaniards. The undefeated record of the Colombians in the Lorenzo era is at stake and although it is only a statistic, it is what has most supported the work in this period.

In this venue, which was called Estadio de Madrid until 2017 when it was reopened, Atlético de Madrid officiates its home matches. It has also hosted important matches such as the 2018 Copa del Rey final and the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League final.
