Hobart briefly becomes Australia’s second hottest city as temperatures soar

Temperatures around Hobart have skyrocketed this afternoon, making it the second hottest capital city in Australia as of 1:30pm with 28 degrees.

The milestone hot weather was short lived, with temperatures in Hobart dropping down to 25.8 degrees by 2pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting a mostly sunny and hot day across Tasmania tomorrow, with a top of 25 degrees expected in Hobart and Launceston

Devonport and Burnie are forecast to reach 23 degrees, with showers expected further west.

A high fire danger is forecast in some areas over the coming days, with the Tasmania Fire Service urging Tasmanians to “remain vigilant” .

“We have been fortunate that no major bushfires have occurred in Tasmania since November, but we need to avoid complacency,” TFS Deputy Chief Officer Matt Lowe said.

“Bushfire season is far from over, and with High Fire Danger ratings forecast in the King Island, Furneaux Islands, Central North, North East, East Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Central Plateau and Western districts over the coming days, we need Tasmanians to act responsibly and stay alert.”
