Chelsea Shishkin, aged 23, has been living in an unsuitable rental home for the past two and a half years. However, her luck changed when she won a lengthy tribunal case against her landlord and was awarded $3028. Shishkin had been dealing with maintenance issues in the home, including a bathroom ceiling close to caving in and a non-working shower. After months of trying to get the issues resolved, she decided to take legal action. The process was tedious and confusing, but in the end, she was successful. Shishkin advises others in similar situations to seek help from organizations such as the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service and the Residential Tenancies Authority.
