Human Remains Discovered in Incinerated Vehicle Near Sydney Revealed to be Unconnected to North Parramatta Case

The skeletal remains found in a burnt-out car in Sydney’s south have been confirmed to be human.

A car fire was reported before midnight on Monday in Waterfall Flat Carpark in the Royal National Park, about 9km south of Engadine.

The Toyota RAV4 was found alight and extinguished by NSW Rural Fire Service crews.

Skeletal remains were then found inside the vehicle.

The remains are yet to be formally identified and have been sent for forensic examination.

The incident is not believed to be linked to a similar incident at about the same time in Sydney’s west, in which human remains were discovered in a burnt-out car in North Parramatta.

An investigation into the discovery is ongoing.

Anyone who was near the Royal National Park or traveled along the Princes Hwy between Engadine and Waterfall between 6pm and midnight on Monday is urged to contact police.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information in relation to a dark-colored Toyota RAV4 is urged to come forward.
