Hyundai showrooms and cars to become more accessible for differently-abled in India

South Korean carmaker, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has launched a new initiative for the betterment of people with disabilities. The new initiative has been named Samarth and aims to promote inclusive mobility for differently-abled people. Bollywood superstar and brand ambassador for Hyundai, Shah Rukh Khan, was also present at the launch.

To promote this inclusivity, Hyundaiis ensuring that its website is user-friendly for people with disabilities.The company is also looking at revamping its dealerships and service centres to be more accessible to differently-abled people. The goal is to have the entire network across India to be accessible by wheelchair users by February 2024.
Another big step being taken is the development and introduction of swivel seats and other accessories. This is being done to make the cars easier to use and the equipment is being developed in collaboration with MOBIS.
Hyundai plans to partner with NGOs to provide more opportunities and tools to differently-abled people. One of the ways the company is doing this is by partnering up with GoSports Foundation to provide holistic support to para-athletes in India. The support will be extended to athletes in both team and individual sports. Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) (CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India) is also partnering with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. Through this collaboration, they will support differently-abled individuals with assistive devices. They will also create a program to support visually impaired cricketers by organising various training camps for grassroots and national level visually impaired cricketers. The program will also organise International Bilateral series for the national blind cricket team.
Shah Rukh Khan has been associated with Hyundai India for almost 25 years now and was present at the launch of the initiative as well. He said, “Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) (CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India) in partnership with GoSports Foundation, a 15-year-old national award-winning foundation, are starting an exclusive programme to provide holistic support to para-athletes in India towards the quest for Paralympics. The programme will support a mix of emerging & elite athletes in both team events and individual sports to promote equity for the community of people-with-disabilities, foster a culture of innovation, upskill through vocational education, and positively impact the para-sports ecosystem to inspire the nation.”
