I Almost Didn’t Recognize Tracee Ellis Ross in a Voluminous Bob With Bangs — See Photos

It never surprises me when Tracee Ellis Ross changes up her hair, but it always delights me. The founder of a beloved hair-care line, Pattern, she clearly has fun with updos and downdos (OK, I totally made that word up, but you know what I mean), playing with different lengths and textures. But even though I fully expect to see a new hair look whenever I see a new photo of Ellis, I did a double take when I saw photos from her latest photoshoot.

Ross is the cover star of Homme Girls Volume 10, in which she discusses the origins of her love of fashion and even wears her own vintage clothing in the shoot. “All through college I would do the Salvation Army. I still have a brown velvet, little blazer that I bought for like seven dollars. I’ve had it copied like, four different times in different fabrics. I loved vintage shopping,” she says in the cover story, “I had a collection of Levi’s cords in like salmon and green… and that’s just the way I did it until I started making my own money.”

And it appears her fondness for vintage looks may extend to her hair, because she’s wearing an absolutely gorgeous retro hairstyle for the shoot.

We’ve seen Ellis in a curly bob before, but never quite like this. In this case, her curls are brushed out into swoopy waves with side-swept bangs, and the volume is unlimited. The full, seemingly wind-shaped blowout, styled by Eric Williams, feels a bit ’60s starlet, a bit ’90s supermodel, and completely chic.
